Before You Dig...

If you are a contractor working on a site or a homeowner working around your own home, you need to know what is in the ground before you dig. The operator of the machine needs to be aware of any underground utilities such as wiring, natural gas, water, sewers and drains. Also if there are any municipal easements on the property they are quite likely to have piping in them.

Trees are another major concern. Most municipalities have bylaws in place that protect certain kinds of trees as well as how many can be removed. There are laws that prohibit the travel of a machine within the drip line of the protected tree. You should check with the appropriate department in the municipality to see what their bylaw states concerning trees.
